Challenging Antarctica

THE BARRIETA KL 092 greases of Kluber Lubricants, used in the Antarctic Observatory, stand out from the crowd with their wide operating temperature range and excellent plastic and elastomer compatibility. At very low temperatures, BARRIETA specialty greases are still fully lubricated to avoid low torque drive overload. They are therefore suitable for long-term lubrication of rolling and sliding bearings that require long-term stability in variable environments and low driving forces.

At the astronomical research station in the world's cold places, Kluber Lubricants' specialty grease support equipment is operating at minus 80 degrees Celsius.

Concord Domeia Is located in central Antarctica, 950 km from the coast and 3,500 metres above sea level. The air here is extremely dry and fresh, with unparalleled astronomical research conditions. Located on the plateau in the eastern part of the continent, the station is one of the coldest places in the world, with temperatures as low as minus 80 degrees Celsius in winter and a maximum temperature of minus 35 degrees Celsius in summer.

The mechanical and electrical equipment of the research station is all working in extremely harsh conditions, and it is not easy to lubricate the equipment and keep moving parts running properly. This can cause damage to critical equipment if the grease loses its lubrication function due to extreme climatic conditions.

Like all BARRIETA K greases, THE BARRIETA KL 092 greases of Kluber Lubricants, used in the Antarctic Observatory, stand out from the crowd with their wide operating temperature range and excellent plastic and elastomer compatibility.
